Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed composition practice that I emailed to the student. I reiterated that this is high level composition and to use it as practice. We discussed the Merci Professeur--she understood the videos very well, so I'm encouraged by her oral comprehension. I plan on spending more time next week on written French. We did a lot of speaking and reading comprehension today. I can already see improvements. She just needs to slow down a little and concentrate on the intricacies of the language, such as pronouns and gender. I'm very excited to keep working with her! She's extremely dedicated and works hard."
"Today the student and I reviewed the demonstrative pronouns and adjectives. He finished a worksheet I had for him and there were a few things he needed to work on, especially deciding between the adjectives or pronouns. We will continue to cover this. We also worked on his fashion show project. We cleaned up the grammar and worked on his pronunciation for the project. He said his test went well, and fingers crossed it did! We will see come Tuesday, I hope."
"We reviewed vocabulary in anticipation of the vocab quiz that the student will have either tomorrow or Tuesday. He's pretty good on most of it, but had trouble calling up certain words, so needs to practice more on his own with those."
"The student completed homework on direct and indirect object participles. There were several exercises to complete, which was taxing due to the complexity of the assignment, but she definitely started getting a better grasp on the rules by the end of it. We will continue to review object participles because they are extremely common but easily forgotten. She also prepared for a vocabulary exam on Monday. The vocabulary was mainly about technology/science. We worked on writing definitions for all the words in French, and she pledged to turn the definitions into flashcards, continue reviewing them, and memorize key words in each of our definitions. I also gave her a list of about 15 words and phrases in French that are most useful when crafting a definition."
"For this session, we focused on the student's verb quiz which was the day after. We went through all of the verb tenses and I quizzed her to see if she knew all the endings and the stems. She had everything down pretty well. We did some practice sentences and a couple of practice paragraphs with the verbs mixed all together. At the end we watched a French video to keep up our listening comprehension."
"We worked on si clauses with future tense as the student has to retake a test on that subject. I asked her to email me what she was going to work on in class so that I can prepare reading material for next Saturday to work on her reading comprehension."
