Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed both tests that the student did in preparation of today's session. The first one involved a lot of problems that he struggled on, so that took a long amount of time, but was successful in the end. He needs to slow down and be more methodical to avoid small, easy mistakes. Two more tests are assigned for next time."
"We finished working on problems on a previous year's AP biology exam. The student did exceptionally well and I impressed by the outcome. He got the majority of the questions correct. It was remarkable how he used process of elimination to arrive at correct answers despite missing some information. Then, we reviewed mitosis, meiosis, and apoptosis. We reviewed the PowerPoint slides, and he seems to have a firm grasp on the concept."
"This session focused on going over questions that the student had on his exam for electrochemistry. Judging by the questions asked, we went over some general concepts in that unit. Most importantly, we reviewed the relationship between delta G, Keq, and E. These values all describe some sort of equilibrium because the quantity dictates how the reactions (towards products or reactants and how favorably) is going. Thus, it is integral to be able to relate these three values together across mathematical equations to ensure that you can convert across each measurement. As the AP exam approaches, we have now oriented sessions to working through practice AP problems. We started by looking at a previous year's AP exam and working through the multiple choice section. We will continue emphasizing and reviewing overarching concepts as we going through the multiple choice questions, and I will provide refreshers on units as we cover them as well."
"The student and I covered the concepts surrounding equilibrium in this session. This was a more theoretical session that dealt with entropy and enthalpy and the relation between the two. He struggled initially with Le Chatelier's principle, which describes stresses applied to a system, but after some practice he was able to understand the concept and how to balance the equations. I am not sure when his next exam will be, but we will keep working and I will be in contact with his teacher to keep on top of him."
"We went through the student's worksheets to prepare him to retake his latest chemistry exam. He seemed to know a lot of the facts associated with this topic. We discussed some ways to conceptually frame the ideas better, and then I spent some time quizzing him on the types of questions he will get on the test. He seems well prepared."
"The student is doing very well. We reviewed material for his test. I see a real progress. His last test he got 86%. Last lesson I did a little bit of lecturing and the rest of the time he worked on problems independently, while I watched and corrected him as needed. I am very happy with the way he is studying and with his results in chemistry."
