Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We resumed learning about scientific notation. Student is successfully retaining what we learned earlier in the chapter and applying it to writing in scientific notation. He took a mastery test at the end and scored 9/10. I am growing more and more confident in his abilities. He has a good attitude and is willing to make and correct his mistakes. We will start the final unit on polynomials next week."
"Student has an assignment due soon and she wanted to start going over it tonight. As background we discussed properties of the normal curve and how to calculate z scores. We then worked on calculating the z scores from raw scores in the assignment. We then worked on how to use the standard normal table to figure out probabilities from z scores."
"The class is titled practical math and we went over computational formulas used in bar codes, banking numbers, and UPC numbers. She understood the concepts very well, but was making slight arithmetic mistakes. The student has requested that I tutor her on a regular basis. Since the she has an exam next Thursday, we will be meeting on Wednesday for a 3-4 hour session. The student has given me a copy of the book so I can go over the material before we meet again."
"During our session, the student and I completed half of a review sheet for a quiz that she has in class this week on Friday. The review sheet covered problems regarding how to solve various geometric figures for surface area and volume, as well as how to draw a net for each figure. She did very well in today's session. We will meet again on Wed to continue reviewing for her upcoming quiz."
"I helped the student review for his test. We covered solving equations involving fractions, e.g. (7/3)x = 24. He was doing well towards the end, and I recommended he look over the problems we covered so that he knows the procedure well for his make-up test."
"We worked on graphing linear equations, solving system of equations, and a few word problems. The student had about 10 pages of algebra problems to prepare her for her midterm this week, and we worked those problems. She had a little difficulty with graphing positive and negative slopes. She also had a positive attitude during the session."
