Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During this session we focused on reviewing the student's most recent subjects: locations & directions. I asked her to do words dictations because I know dictation is always on her test. I can see a lot of improvements from her. I know that her grade is getting better, and we will get her wherever she would like to be."
"Went over past material of questions and answers, e.g. where, when, what, how much, and why. Learned new material such as indicating location, talking about money, answering why with because, studied grammar and how to form sentences of medium complexity. Assigned sentences for the student to translate."
"We covered basic mannerism vocabulary and sample sentences. I also taught him samples of measurement words and what type of nouns followed each measurement word. The student has a great background, but he was struggling with the tone marks on certain pronunciations. I suggested the student to practice the vocab words that we went over and try to connect them to make his own sentences."
"-We did a final review of the whole year, including Past Preterite (regular and irregular),Tu Command form, Reflexive Verbs,, Present Progressive, Ir + A + Infinitive, Participles, Superlatives and some vocabulary."
"We spent a good deal of time in conversation before moving on to a selection from our reader. The attached exercises provided a good review of when to use the preterite and the imperfect tenses. We next took a look at our grammar text. The student had written some original examples using reflexive verbs and also completed a couple of exercises that dealt with the passive voice. We're working our way through a long list of idioms, and she wrote out a few examples, selecting idioms that she found of interest. From there we moved on to a discussion of the novel we're reading. As usual, she wrote out a summary of the most recent chapter, which she then read aloud."
"The student and I worked on learning how to say basic phrases and some of the objects in the room. The incentivization system with the star chart and having his mom there to help him pay attention to what I was teaching him definitely helped to make the session go smoother. Right now he is repeating after what I say, and regurgitating that many times so he could remember what was just taught. Moving forward, I will review the last session's phrases with him and continue to teach him how to say common objects in Chinese, and other commonly used phrases."
