Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student brought her homework for this session which we went over. The topic was a continuation of relating and solving trig functions. The student has a test next Tuesday and we are meeting again on Monday afternoon."
"Worked with the student for roughly an hour on some of the basic math for the ACT with instructions to continue studying this material on his own when I cannot come. Finished the session helping him with web work for his math class."
"The session was divided between physics and pre-cal, with the physics portion focusing on free body diagrams and forces. During our time spent studying pre-cal, we focused on bringing together the unit on which we've been working for two weeks."
"The student has a rough draft of his research paper due tomorrow. He had the entire thing done when I came over, so we focused on structure, ideas, and content. I helped him to clarify and reword anything that wasn't clear and expand on points that needed more information. The teacher asked for 1200 words and he now has 1195, which is within the specified goal (10-20 words away). We also talked briefly about citing sources and I gave him a resource to use when he creates his bibliography."
"The student has a standardized test over math tomorrow, so we went over review packets she had from her teacher. They included mostly algebra 1 material such as describing characteristics of parent functions, solving word problems with direct/indirect variations, and relationships between line graphs. She seems very prepared for her exam, so I hope she does well. I also went over some testing strategies to use for the multiple choice exam."
"Today we continued doing math, including strategies for plugging in numbers to reach answers for difficult questions, ratios, and percentages. I also assigned the student a set of math questions to do over the weekend, and I gave him the answer key to check his work."
"We reviewed material that will be in the student's midterm exam and began completing a worksheet to help him prepare. Chiefly we focused on adding more verbs to his vocabulary (such as "aprender" and "pensar") and words pertaining to a classroom setting (such as homework/"tarea" and subjects such as chemistry/"quimica"). This material was covered in class earlier this semester."
"French: We practiced numbers and grammar with the "Va pecher" game. We also looked at the end of chapter rap "Salut!" and discussed what the rap was about. Finally we reviewed some of the other chapter vocabulary and used the words to create sentences (eg: The boy has a chair.) Algebra: continued work on chapter 1. We reviewed the homework and then moved on to discuss prime numbers and factoring."
"This was my first session with the student. We worked on arithmetic and geometric series. We finished most of a test review that involved finding the nth term in a series or finding the sum of a series. He had to focus on using the correct formula to apply to each situation and he did a good job of doing that. He seemed to understand the material well and did a good job."
"We reviewed the chapters and notes on bacteria, viruses, and protists. The student completed the questions on the review worksheet with help from her notes. She also made flash cards with key definitions and concepts to continue to review for tomorrow's test. She knows the concepts that are repeated from previous chapters, but needs to focus on memorizing the new information regarding these chapters."
"Covered the universal gravitation equation F = Gm1m2/r^2 and worked a few problems related to this concept - Introduced uniform circular motion and the three main equations used to solve these problems."
"We began working on some of the problems in Chapter 3, covering some important concepts such as allocation, manufacturing overhead, etc. There were a few large problems that we went over from beginning to end so that he could better move through them efficiently. I then wrote similar problems on the spot and changed numbers and threw some curveballs and had him do them. I think overall it was a good session."
