Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student's current Literature grade is a 107%! We reviewed terms for her tragic hero unit and I helped her better understand several scenes in Oedipus Rex. She completed and submitted an online review quiz during our session. We discussed her tragic hero project in greater detail. She wants to profile Robin Thicke as a tragic hero. During this session we focused on a writing assignment for Journalism. She was writing a story about her interview with a local news anchor and needed help organizing and outlining her ideas. She also included some superfluous information that I helped her pare down. She wanted to turn the assignment in that evening (several days prior to the due date), but I recommended she take more time with it."
"The student and I began working on his next essay today. He had a bit of difficulty getting started, but we talked through some ideas, and he was able to complete a portion of the rough draft by the time we were finished. I've asked him to do at least three full paragraphs by the beginning of school tomorrow. I'll take a look at what he's written so far and give him some feedback. Then, he'll revise whatever is necessary and finish writing tomorrow (Tuesday) night. He should be able to turn it all in by Wednesday morning, so it will be on time."
"I assisted the student with her vocabulary homework. We went over the pronunciations and definitions of the words, and I helped her through a worksheet. After this, we went over the volume and surface area of various three-dimensional objects. She did a good job today!"
"We started a new set of vocabulary words. We did a crossword and defined the words together to make flashcards. We also talked about school and the student's grades in certain areas of writing. We agreed to work on grammar and capitalization."
"The student began by completing his political cartoon his 1628 newspaper project set in France. He then practiced a practice ACT reading test, something he has never done with me. We reviewed the answers and various strategies to succeeding on the reading portion."
"Today the student and I went over how to plan an essay. We also discussed the need for transitions between examples and how to manage her time when writing an essay. She was also very interested in what college was like and I was able to provide her with information. Furthermore, we discussed what subjects and areas she would like to focus on."
