"We spent the majority of the session looking at sample problems related to limits. We did examples using the limit formula to find the limit, and also used graphs to find limits. The limit formula was new to her, but she was able to use it alone after the first example. The concept of limits and continuous functions needs to be revisited. We went through many examples to make sure she could set them up correctly, and she will finish them on her own this week."
"The student and I focused on using a quotient formula for determining the derivative, or slope, of different functions. Some of this involved a review of fractions then simplifying and sometimes plugging in a x-value and sometimes leaving it in it's same form. Some of the problems were very difficult but he hung in there. I didn't see any areas where he didn't understand the concepts. Nice job today."
"We found tangent lines, took derivatives, finding the coefficients in certain differentiable piecewise functions and other problems."
"I helped the student with both calculus and chemistry. He's been struggling with managing his time among his classes. He has been trying to figure out how to spread his studying among his classes and not just focus on one subject at a time. I started going over basic concepts with him in calculus. He explained what he already knew and I would help him fill in the gaps of his understanding. Then we switched over to chemistry and went over phase changes and quantum numbers. I would confirm with him whether he went over concepts yet in his class. When it came time for him to tell me how he understood the concepts, he would normally bring in material that was a bit related. I could tell that he is a very intelligent guy that loved to learn. I believe when he learns how to manage his time efficiently and I can help him focus better so that he will excel in his classes."
"We worked on definite integrals, and he is showing great progress. We also worked on Riemann sums and even midpoint sums."
"We went over vectors, adding and finding the norm of a vector. We also went over graphing trigonometric functions."
