"Today we covered lesson 1 of the student's new book, which included some new vocab, a poem, and a bunch of exercises dealing with creating sentences and filling the blanks using new characters from the lesson. She practiced her four tones, recited the poem, and practiced the stroke order of old and new characters."
"My session with the student on Saturday went really well -- she is doing a great job of retaining knowledge and skills learned during previous weeks and demonstrating that during our session. We worked through Chapter 18 in the pronunciation workbook. Chapter 17 is particularly tricky, so I will be reviewing that chapter over and over again in future weeks. I strongly believe in working in the larger context, so I taught her how to say "Did you have a nice Christmas?" and "Happy New Year" with flashcards, and we continued with flashcards of her favorite foods. I will expand the flashcards to include more topics/categories in the future; however, for right now, it's not so much the words that matter as much as getting her to fine tune her pronunciation each week. As usual, have her practice with the flashcards during the week, and I look forward to meeting this upcoming Saturday."
"We had an overall review today, and I did a dictation of almost every vocab we've learned. Some of the words she had a little trouble with here and there, and some she knew how to say them but forgot how to write them. There were 14 words I asked her to practice more to reinforce her memory. Today's new vocab were: homework, Lily, tongue and sentence. We also practiced a little more Chinese calligraphy at the end, and she learned how to write her name. The homework is to practice those 14 old words plus 4 new vocab for today and write one complete sentence."
