Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We completed factoring problems assigned by the student's teacher. I briefly introduced him to the process of 'completing the square' to factor polynomial equations in vertex form. During the next session, I will follow up with him on this method because I taught him how to solve that specific problem. We also began assigned word problems. These took some time, as the problems built upon one another. Lastly, we briefly discussed mass number and atomic mass as they relate to the presence of different elements and isotopes."
"We reviewed for the student's test, and went over the assigned review which included problems about equation of lines, simplifying algebraic expressions, factoring. He showed no issue with the review. We then left him homework to prepare for the upcoming test."
"Had a great session. We went over algebra and primarily I helped him with his homework. By the end of the session he was completing all of the problems with ease."
"We covered factoring of polynomials. He picked it up much faster than I anticipated and was soon able to quickly factor anything that I gave him, regardless of the order I listed it in, positive and negatives, and any combination of numbers. With our remaining time we covered the graphing of lines, finding the slope, and determining the y-intercept."
"We worked on reviewing for his Chapter 2 test. He seemed fine, after some remedial instruction in graphing lines and parabolas. I don't foresee him having any trouble on his test. I gave him a outline of things to review the morning before his test."
"During our session we took time to finish his homework on conditionals and converse and biconditionals. He has a good grasp on the subject. Then we looked at the next lesson where we used logic to form geometric proofs. We also looked at geometry questions that are similar to what we covered."
"We covered converting improper fractions to mixed fractions. We also covered the difference between whole numbers, integers and rational numbers, as well as word problems involving fractions and absolute values. After today's lesson, he has a better understanding of how to convert improper fractions to mixed fractions. I have no concerns--he has a great attitude and I look forward with working with him."
"This week she and I worked on more math facts and we also prepared for her upcoming test on Thursday. I can proudly say that she has now mastered her multiplication tables using the cue card studying strategy I recommended! Her progress remains steady and she's on the right track."
"During our time together, he and I completed the typical schedule of using half of our time for biology and the other half for math. Throughout the time spent doing biology, we analyzed data and completed a lab report for a field trip that they completed the Thursday before our meeting. Then, once this was completed, we moved into the math homework, where we completed practice problems that the teacher assigned. Through the process, we continued creating and reviewing the notecards that we have been making. Therefore, I left him with these notecards as extra practice and review of the material."
"At the advice of her mother, we began with last night's homework. She seems very capable of math when it is straight-forward. We practiced drawing a picture as a way to visualize and understand a problem. We completed her homework on factors, which was a great review of multiplication facts and long division. Her mother requested additional work to help her stay on top of her math work because she will have to take a state test this year."
"Reviewed current material on prime numbers, focusing on concepts and how to identify prime numbers, as well as tips to quicken the process of solving for them. Following that, worked ahead into the next two sections on prime factorization and least common multiple. She had little difficulty understanding prime factorization and had no problem with any of the practice problems I gave her on that. Least common multiple she had issue at first, but had a grasp of it by the end of the session."
"This session we covered math weekly questions. We worked through the word problems together and he was very quick at finding the solutions. Next week we will review questions from the math work book to begin preparing for making the team."
