"The student had questions about how to solve equations involving inequalities, absolute value signs, and graphing the solutions on number lines. I showed him how to solve problems with a guess-and-check strategy. I also taught him how to solve problems in the case of absolute value, the FOIL method for binomials, and the quadratic formula to find the roots of quadratic equations."
"During tutoring today the student and I covered how to solve quadratic equations by factoring and using the quadratic equation. He and I first reviewed his 11.1 quiz (solving quadratics by inverse and taking the square root). He and I also reviewed a few problems of graphing quadratics and I taught him how to use the tracker and table on his calculator."
"We started our final review for the exam. We covered related rates, velocity, acceleration, the mean value theorem, average value, average rate of change, implicit differentiation, and linearization."
"During our tutoring session, the student and I worked on one of her homework assignments. Her assignment focused on the use of integrals to find the volume of three dimensional objects. In my opinion, this is the toughest concept in AP Calculus. After a few examples, the student started to get the hang of it. We still need to focus more on this topic since it plays an important part of the AP test."
"We took 2 hours on this session to ensure the student felt ready for his 2 day exam. I left the student with 4 practice problems and an answer key so that he could have extra practice before his exam. Overall, he's feeling okay about the exam. He's very good at taking tests, so I'm sure he will do well!"
"Today we covered the topics of conic sections (circles, ellipses, and hyperbolas). Specifically we learned how to identify the various properties of each such as the vertices, foci, asymptotes, and center. The student struggled with how to identify what type of conic when provided with a standard form of an equation. After providing some hints, he was able to identify each kind of conic section based off the equations. Also he had some issues with identifying some of the properties of each conics, specifically how to determine the foci and vertices in both ellipses and hyperbolas. We are having a session tomorrow for chemistry but I will ask him how he feels about the material after a day of sitting on it."
