Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, we again studied for his math test tomorrow. For the problems involving circles, I made him write out the formulas so he wouldn't forget to divide by 2 for a half circle or by 4 for a quarter circle. He is a very bright kid. I've been trying to practice slowing down and thinking about every step in the problem with him. He understands the material, hopefully tomorrow he is able to slow down and check his work."
"The student and I continued to work on his knowledge of fractions which meant addition and subtraction of fractions as well as multiplication and division of fractions. He seemed to struggle mostly with the addition and subtraction especially when it comes to finding a common denominator. Nonetheless, he has shown great understanding of the multiplication and division of fractions. I left him with some extra practice to build consistency in his knowledge of the material. All the same, it was an accomplished session."
"Tonight the student wanted to go over the practice test she had recently taken. We looked at all the questions and problems she got wrong or partially wrong. In general, she was able to identify where she got confused or didn't get a chance to review yet."
"We covered two questions on one old AP Calculus exam, and two and a half questions on a different AP Calculus exam. The student is definitely improving in speed an accuracy in her questions. The only difficult problem is differentiating between a rate and a value, especially when there are multiple rates acting against each other. Another excellent section."
"We looked at exponential decay in terms of carbon dating, as well as rate of change in temperature with respect to the surrounding air, which becomes a similar expression that you are solving for e to a power -kt. We also discussed differential equations some, and how to graph the slope field for a particular differential equation, and how to solve the differential equations at specific points."
"Tonight, I gave the student an assessment on his pre-algebra. He did a great job. We discussed extracting square roots and conversions from English measures to metric. We will spend more time on this next week and we will begin a session on organizational skills as well."
