Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we drilled the math section, discussing probabilities and the formula for groups (total = group1 + group2 - both + neither). We also drilled the verbal section, practicing questions with two and three blanks and some passage based reading. The student seems to be well prepared for her upcoming test date. I did not leave extra practice, but she mentioned the she is planning to complete a practice test in the near future. No concerns to report."
"The student and I worked on the verbal section of the GRE. I had her do one complete section at the beginning of the session. She did well overall, although there is room for improvement. She got over half of the questions correct. After this, I went through the questions she answered incorrectly. This took one hour. We decided to work on the verbal part of the GRE for the next hour as well, so I had her do another verbal section and we followed the same method as I described above. She felt more confident because she is beginning to notice that she is recognizing some of her vocabulary words on the verbal section of the GRE, which means that she is improving. We are planning on meeting next on Monday."
"The student and I continued to work on the verbal section of the exam focusing on vocabulary question types. He completed exercises of the sentence equivalence and sentence completion problems, and we went over each question by discussing strategies, his own process, and ways to improve. We also used his exercises as an opportunity to build his vocabulary by exploring the definition of each word that he didn't recognize and breaking down its roots whenever possible."
"We worked on Rate, Time Distance Problems, Double Matrix Problems and Variable in the answer choice problems. We created a customized set of practice problems to address some of the difficulties the student has. He will work on the problems and send them to me by Monday. He has great intuition, but struggles with algebra and two or more variables word problems."
"The student and I met for another session of entry exam tutoring. In this session we worked on geometric concepts. We mainly focused on triangles and coordinate geometry, with a little data interpretation mixed in. In all subjects she did very well, only tripping up due to small mistakes. In verbal she did very well on her vocabulary work, but struggled a little bit with reading. We will continue to go over that section so she can continue to improve."
"We reviewed a practice test which covered the entire scope of the MCAT. The student did very well. We looked at the methods for taking the test, different ways of solving the problems and how best to maximize the efficiency of the process."
