Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We worked on graphing quadratic equations and manipulating the equations into different forms. The student is doing a good job of recognizing what a graph of a quadratic will look like just by looking at the equation. We also worked on solving for the roots of a quadratic equation."
"The student came to our session tonight with a fairly lengthy review sheet on many different factoring techniques. We were able to get halfway through the assignment, and more importantly, we were able to do at least two examples for each style of question. By the end of our time, she said she felt much more comfortable with the variety of factoring techniques, including the difference of squares, sum/difference of cubes, using the distributive property, and factoring trinomials with a leading coefficient. I'm confident she'll have little trouble completing the rest of the assignment on her own."
"Today we reviewed for the six-week exam. After completion of review for the exam, we began to talk about the material on the semester exam. Topics covered were end behavior of graphs, limits, checking on whether it is an even, odd, or neither function, transformations, and formation of polynomials in standard form given the zeros."
"We covered imaginary numbers, rationalizing square roots, graphing systems, factoring polynomials, and using inverses. After a gentle reminder, the student was able to work the problem almost seamlessly. She seemed appreciative of the help and stated that she understands it better than before. We worked problems from her review sheet and decided that next time we will work the word problems. She and I are compiling a list of formulas used and will use them next time. She seemed to gain confidence as we went."
"For this session, the student and I focused intensely on negative numbers. We did a variety of problems with all four arithmetic operations. She is definitely improving and will get even better with more practice."
"Today we worked on optimization problems. The student struggled when choosing which formula to use. His attitude was positive throughout the session. I included strategies for remembering which formula to use."
