"I verified the student's homework problems. He then practiced the 2-step word problems. He made some mistakes and could not answer a few. I have helped him understand the process and he was able to solve the problems."
"We worked on three separate topics. First the student practiced long division to catch up from old material. Then we worked on her study guide for the review for about 40 minutes. Lastly she practiced exponents, another current topic. She is motivated to do well. Her understanding and knowledge base of algebra topics is strong. We talked about her calculating errors which seem to be the source of her wrong answers when they happen. We talked about taking problems a little more slowly, checking over work and being careful. Overall she is doing well!"
"The student is preparing for midterm exams scheduled for next week. We focused on polynomials: finding zeroes, identifying degrees, factoring and operations. I gave her the flowchart to aid in factoring all types of polynomials."
"The student has finals coming up for all of his subjects. We worked on study guides for math, science, language arts and Spanish. We mostly focused on math and science. He does have trouble slowing down to completely understand what the problem is asking before trying to finish the problem. A lot of his mistakes are from rushing through problems. We discussed how to slow down and take extra time so he fully understands the problem before trying to answer. He has some issues with word problems but we did some extra examples so he can understand better. We completed his math, science and Spanish reviews. The plan is to continue using his study guides to prep for his upcoming tests."
"The student worked on her pre-algebra homework. Her homework was all about measurement conversions using a variable as the missing measurement. She showed me how she sets up the conversions, and I can tell that she is a very logical thinker, because she thinks through how to do the calculation in her head instead of always the more mathematical way on paper. I worked with her some on the mathematical way to go about solving the problems instead of only in her head. She did very well with the work and had a very positive attitude as we worked. She had to finish a few more problems after our session, but she got most of her work done. I look forward to working with her again in the future!"
"The student worked on her current homework - scale ratios and using those when dealing with area. We spent a fair amount of time on square units and how to work with those. In future sessions, we may want to go back to linear scale ratios, as well as reviewing fractions."
