"The student and I went over a multiple choice section. Then, we started thinking about an argumentative essay prompt. We completed the brainstorming during the session and made an outline. I asked him to complete the essay at home to bring it in for the next session."
"The student began college classes the day before. We went over some key time management skills. We also went over a bit of the APA style writing and looked at the meaning of plagiarism."
"Material/Resources Used: Research Article Critical Appraisal Paper Guidelines (instructions from professor) "Smoking Cessation in Women..." (article assigned by professor from the Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing) Session Evaluation: My session with the student began with us discussing my background familiarity with APA formatting and with an overview of her (nursing/medical) research class. We went over the assignment guidelines and the article she'd selected for the assigned review. Then we referenced a few sections of her textbook that could aid in project completion. I also shared with her a few sites to utilize to check APA citations. Most of our time was spent analyzing each section of her required report - making sure that she was clear not only on how to find the appropriate responses based on what was being asked, but also on how to phrase it appropriately (Standard Written English). We were able to tackle what she deemed the more challenging sections of the report together - brainstorming initial responses and citations. Ultimately, by the end of the session, she and I responded to about half of the section prompts, annotated the article for the remaining sections/prompts, and had an initial outline for the rest of the work to be completed."
