Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we covered place value and reviewed addition and subtraction. We worked from her workbook and also online for place value review."
"I mostly did homework with student A. I got student B started, but he completed it independently. We also played a quick game as a study break."
"We worked on the student's summer math packet. We was able to complete most of the packet, and was comfortable finishing on his own."
"The student and I reviewed some fractions and decimals concepts. While we were doing this, I noticed that she has some difficulty determining when she needs to simplify a fraction. Therefore, I gave her a few problems and I had her work through them to determine if they can by simplified and to what. This took her some time and I worked with her on the strategy of thinking if the numerator and denominator share any factors. This seemed to help her, but we will continue to review it as we continue on with our sessions. We also did some word problems to practice her problem solving skills. I will bring strategies and more problem solving materials with me for our next session."
"During this session we reviewed numbers, letters, colors, shapes and their names. The first student is getting better with his number and letter recognition and both students continue to do well."
"Today we worked on English. The student had homework that focused on using commas in different situations, so we reviewed the homework together. Unfortunately, the homework was somewhat difficult, because he did not know what several of the parts of speech were (e.g. preposition, pronoun, interjection, dependent clause, conjunction). Thus, we spent significant amounts of time reviewing these terms. I asked him to review these concepts, as a solid understanding and quick recognition will make English much easier for him in the future."
