"The student and I started off the lesson working on multiple choice problems from the practice test. He thought the problems were rather easy and answered the majority of the problems correctly. After closing the review of the problems, we finished our lesson studying the problems from past tests. Except for misreading the questions, he did a great job. I feel very confident that he is going to do very well on his AP biology with all the work he has put in studying."
"Today, the student and I moved on to talking about Ecology. We worked through about half of her learning objectives, which is good progress. She was picking up this material much faster than she was plant biology, which is encouraging. I saw that she received somewhere between a B+/A- on her last exam, which is good, but there is room for improvement. My goal for her on this next test is a solid A, and I think based on what I saw Sunday, it's a reasonable goal."
"Topics discussed included acids and bases, Ka and how it affect the strength of a base (larger the Ka, the more H+ ions, and the stronger the acid), and buffers."
"The student and I had a good session. He has a test coming up in Chemistry this week. We started reviewing material in chapter 20. We got about halfway through the thermodynamic material on the test. Several things dealing with microstates were clarified, and he has a clear direction moving forward. Our next session is scheduled for Tuesday."
"We reviewed concepts of angular motion for an upcoming exam. The student provided some sample questions he was having problems with that we worked through together. The concepts focused on torque, angular momentum, and rotational inertia. He seemed to struggle at first with these concepts, but was doing much better by the end of the session."
"During this session, we focused on reviewing the student's post lab questions for an upcoming lab report. This involved a titration experiment and determination of Ka. He seemed to have a good grasp of the calculations involved in this determination, but he had some difficulty grasping the theoretical concepts involved in some questions. In particular, we spent the bulk of the time discussing how buffers affect the alteration of pH when strong acids/bases are added and what reactions occur. By the end of the session, however, he had a good grasp of the material."
