Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We started the session with a review of comparing fractions. We then moved on to the student's homework on subtracting mixed numbers. By the end, she seemed to feel comfortable with the steps. We then worked on several word problems. For the most part, she is now answering equations correctly. Now, we are focusing on mixed word problems and longer mixed worksheets. She was concentrating well today and doing her best."
"This was our first session. We corrected some previous homework, reviewed today's homework, and started tomorrow's. It was a great opportunity to evaluate the student's skills in place value, simplifying fractions, and long division. I provided a strategy she put in her notebook to remember decimal place value."
"The student and I worked on reflex math via the computer. He did his math homework which consisted of word problems where he had to deal with fractions (part and whole), mixed fractions, improper fractions, diagrams and equations. He also had to work on the computer to work on typing skills. He struggled with word problems. We will continue to work on that. He had a positive attitude toward the material. I taught him how to pick out important information in word problems and how to break word problems down, piece by piece. I saw his grades, and he received another perfect score on an assignment."
"The student first worked through her homework that she had this night. She was able to get through a good chunk of it without any problems. However, there were a few instances where I had to nudge her along or correct her work. After that, she asked me to take a look at her science corrections, and we went through them together for the corrections that she still got wrong. Afterwards, we backtracked to math. Rather than focusing on only one subject like I have been whenever I work with her, I touched base on all the previous subjects. She was actually eager to go back to these, and she did them all with little to no mistake. In my opinion, she did very well this session. It was probably the best session so far!"
"Today, the student and I spent a majority of our time working on her math skills. She did a great job today! I was very impressed with how great her number identification skills have become. We were a little rocky with our 12's/20's, but by the end of the lesson she was identifying them with 0 errors! She also did a great job counting a various number of items and identifying the correct answer out of a field of 3 possible answers. We were able to squeeze in a little reading today as well. She impressed me right away with her /b/ and /d/ letter and sound identification! We also worked on some recurring sight words (to, go, I, the) and worked together to build a complex sentence. A great session all around!"
"Today the student and I were able to begin tackling his new textbook for his math class. We began by going over the first several sections on the chapter on decimals. Many of the skills reflected converting decimals and fractions from different mathematical and visual representations of numbers. He was able to quickly grasp the information and successfully practice these math skills. I left him with a few homework problems in his workbook to complete before our next session."
