Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I worked with the student on solving rational word problems like mixtures, currents, and amount of time it takes two people to complete a task. He had difficulty at first with setting up some problems but got the hang of it at the end when asked to complete two problems on own. He needs to label within the problem in order to organize work."
"The student and I reviewed for his exam on parabolas on Tuesday. We specifically reviewed aspects of parabolas: vertex, domain, range, maximum, minimum, zeroes, and y-intercepts. His understanding of the material overall was a little weak. But after leaving him, he was very confident in his understanding of the material. I recommended that he independently review the material several times before his next exam."
"The student and I had a great session. He's on a math competition team, and he wanted help on several of the problems that he had on the practice test, to prepare. We worked through several problems, and he made big improvement! He also said that he had a math test yesterday, and feels like he did exceptionally well on it. He seems very confident in his math skills, and is keeping up with the work well!"
"We started with reviewing the student's last test. She received a 68% because she confused herself on what to do with a zero exponent. She knew that anything to the zero power was one, but when that was raised to a power she multiplied one by the exponent, not zero. This caused her to get 5 problems partially wrong; otherwise she would have had a 94 on her test. We then looked at her newest class lesson- graphing linear equations. We discussed the proper steps to graphing a linear equation and how having the y-intercept and the slope make graphing the line simpler. She did very well at plotting the points. She knows her quadrants and can easily identify which way is horizontal and which is vertical."
"We covered the same concept as we did the last time. I noticed that he did very well in his last test. He needs to practice more. About one hour a day is recommended for practice and this would help clarify any material we covered in our session."
"Tested the breadth of the student's algebraic ability, reviewing some of the finer points of first year algebra. He did very well, has a strong grasp on the fundamentals and is ready for some algebra 2/geometric work."
