Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I went over her new section dealing with triangle inequalities, and she had a few questions. I helped walk her through some of the steps and explained why each part led to the next. She needs more practice but understands the majority of the material well for just learning it."
"We covered topics in geometry, physics, and chemistry. Our session included going over key concepts in problem solving, including the identification of variables, constants, and manipulating equations."
"We continued working on the student's program and completed roughly 4 modules The modules covered included advanced properties of polygons which involved calculating the area of a rhombus and trapezoid. While the number of modules completed was lower than normal, he and I both felt good since the concepts and problems were a lot more involved and required significant calculation. He had great energy and was focused."
"We met Wednesday from 4-5:00 p.m. We mainly focused on tangent and secant bisectors of a circle and identifying angles, arcs and bisector lengths. He seemed to get most of it and appeared confident by the end of the session. I also had him memorize the quadratic formula. We made plans to meet the next day."
"The student and I started previewing the next chapter in her textbook about special types of parallelograms and different theorems using those properties. We went through practice problems in her textbook and talked about how to construct proofs using the different theorems about parallelograms."
"We worked on solving special right triangles using 45-45-90 and 30-60-90 relationships. We also looked at Pythagorean Triples. I left her a booklet of sample problems dealing with these situations along with a practice test. Session went very well."
"Worked on previous sections where student wanted to cover. Set up a homework and study plan to maximize students learning and use our time efficiently. We discussed analytical proofs and using constructions to prove them (ie drawing an extra lines) etc."
"We went over chord/arc relationships again and also worked through new homework dealing with finding arcs and angle/major/minor arc notation. The student has already vastly improved his familiarity with the terms after 2 tutoring sessions. He was attentive and enthusiastic about learning the material. Again, I stressed the importance of writing down steps showing his work to not only ensure better grades for tests but also to help himself when he needs to review past assignments. The progress and continued engagement from the student is very encouraging."
"- The student and I worked on volume and surface area of cones, pyramids, triangular prism, rectangular prism, cubes etc. - We went over scale factor ratios and ratio of volumes with scale factors."
"We continued with quadrilaterals. The student needed to revisit how to find the slope, distance, and midpoints of lines, but she quickly remembered those concepts. We did one part of her homework together, and then she was able to apply everything we talked about to the second part of her homework really quickly. We also came up with some study plans for her upcoming history test and French quiz. In addition, I suggested to her that she should spend 10-15 minutes before she does homework on each subject to quickly review what was talked about in class so she can remember better what was taught each day."
"The student was introduced to Special Right Triangles this week in class. To build her understanding we discussed principles that she already knew that applied to the material. (example: angles of a triangle add up to 180 degrees) By the end of the session she was more comfortable with the material."
"In geometry, we covered the area of circles, sectors, and triangles. The student had a strong grasp on material. He is becoming more comfortable with recognizing and using properties of special triangles. For Chemistry, we worked on limiting reagent."
