Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Student A and I worked on the reading comprehension passage about producers, consumers, pollinators, and food chains over both days. We reviewed the differences among herbivores, carnivores, and omnivores; as well as to differentiate between consumers and producers. She answered the comprehension questions in complete sentences and used words from the questions in her answers. We also worked on math, focusing mostly on telling time. We reviewed the 5 minute increments on the clock, how to show different times on the clock, as well as writing it digitally. Finally, we worked on patterns. She did well adding and subtracting 2-digit numbers, but 3-digit numbers was a challenge. We reviewed counting and adding/subtracting with multi-digit numbers. I also worked with Student B. We focused on reading comprehension. We finished writing the events from Albert Einstein's life in chronological order. We completed the questions from the reading passage about food chains, producers, and consumers. He had difficulty reading the passage at certain parts and omits words, which at times alters the meaning of the sentence. He did a great job at using the words from the questions in his answers. His answers were thorough and complete."
"Practiced solving algebraic equations, and worked on mastering area and circumference/perimeter of 2-D geometric shapes."
"Solving specific problems from the student's summer math packet. Worked on problem-solving strategies as well as underlying principles of algebra and geometry."
"Today we went over one of the student's assignments having to do with simple regression. We covered how to read scatter plots and regression lines, as well as what the regression equation is and how to use it. We also discussed the difference between regression and correlation. By the end of the session, she said she felt comfortable enough with the material to complete her assignment."
"Today we went over polynomials and their graphs. The student was positive as usual. She was a bit hesitant toward the material at the beginning of our session, but she seemed to build confidence toward the end when she was solving her homework problems on her own. She has homework problems and an exam review she can work on to strengthen her skills. She should continue to look over her class notes and continue to do practice problems from class to familiarize her self with the material and identify the material she will need to know for her exams. She was struggling a bit with graphs, but it seems she has a much better handle on them now that she has been able to visualize what she needs to plot a graph of a polynomial."
"Today the student had an investigation of chi squared analyses in "real life" scenarios. The homework required her to perform a goodness of fit test, and a test of homogeneity with a given data set. She understands the statistical context of the test and was able to correctly compute the statistics. She was also able to explain the analysis in plain language."
