Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Overall, the student is a strong writer. During this session, I focused largely on higher-order concerns, noticing that many of her college essays lacked a main idea or thesis that essentially "held" the essay together. Although she adequately responded to prompts, the lack of a main idea made her essays choppy and less engaging to a reader. We also worked a bit upon content development, specifically ensuring that points and ideas that seem "easy" to her are clearly explained to a reader. In future sessions, we'll continue to work on main idea and content development as well as some organizational issues. I'll also begin to incorporate lessons on reducing wordiness and awkward phrasing."
"The student sent me his revised application essays, including a substantial revision of his second essay, and I spent half an hour reviewing them and inserting comments and suggestions in Word before emailing them back to him. We were able to spend a full hour going through the suggestions I made on his revised drafts and working through the alternatives he still faced with the largest remaining section that needed revision in the second essay (the next to last paragraph from the end). We also spent time going over the penultimate copy for proofing errors, primarily punctuation errors."
"The student felt she needed to meet to further revise her essays before submitting them. Essays are now complete."
