Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We began by reviewing the math problems assigned as well as some questions that she had from a GRE practice exam. In the text, she had questions based on a few absolute value questions (which were mostly more abstract, number-theory questions really) and divisibility/ prime questions. In the course of reviewing the GRE questions, we worked on coordinate geometry basics and a review of basic combinatorics/ probability. She was stronger on the latter than on the former. We then spent the rest of the session working on sentence completion questions. She does not have problems with the reasoning in these questions. However, she will regularly not know numerous words. I assigned 2 online sets of sentence completion questions as well as a smattering from combinatorics/ probability and coordinate geometry."
"We talked about the importance of being able to use a formula rather than having them memorized. We worked more on word problems, and clarified concepts in line equations, etc. The importance points I repeatedly addressed were to double check the answer to see if it make sense, especially in word problems, and when dealing with line equations every point on the line satisfies the equation."
"Today we reviewed basic algebra concepts and then turned to a number of algebra and number theory problem solving questions. Next class, we will focus more on algebra problems that allow us to use our plugging in strategies."
