"Continued practicing oral and written conversation from Monday. Went over grammar and verbs, "to be" and "to have.""
"This session was out first meeting so we spent a bit of time getting to know each other and talking through each of our goals. The students are starting tutoring sessions primarily for personal and professional growth. Their goal is to use French in personal travel (e.g. during the next Europe cup!) and professional work. They both expressed a desire to speak French at the same level they communicate in English. Both students, while in reality at different levels in French, would like to start at the beginning mainly for review and reinforcement of language concepts. For the moment, we will be working from the book they brought in. I may move them to a different book as needed eventually. I have also requested that they purchase a dictionary and a conjugation book for class if they can. For the first session we mainly worked on introductions: how to present yourself and other people in addition to some basic greetings. We then worked through identification of some basic definite and indefinite articles for nouns, both singular and plural. I tried to do this in a way that involved a lot of speaking to practice oral proficiency. The students were both given the homework of working out a brief presentation of their family, i.e. the members of their family and ages of each. They were also asked to write down 10 verbs and their meaning. We will be building a verb list to help with class discussion. Use of French and any exposure to the French language outside of class was also emphasized. The session went well overall, and I am looking forward to meeting again!"
