Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This session was focused on final exam review for the student. He came prepared with a practice exam review with problems he wanted to go over. During the session, we were able to cover over 40 problems that were commutative algebra topics. He seemed to be able to understand and work through the problems."
"The student and I used this session to work through his homework on piecewise functions. The most difficult concept for him was figuring out the y-intercept of functions whose domains did not include x=0. This required using some additional calculations using the y=mx+b formula. Other than that, he had a good grasp on the material and could even answer the word problems without much assistance."
"Today was a final review before a cumulative exam on quadratics. The student struggled most with completing the square, a method that is seldom used. However, she was able to recognize patterns in quadratics and convert vertex form to standard form, allowing her to factor through other methods. She was confident and did most of the work without questions."
"We studied for his final. We went over previous tests. Simple algebra mistakes, and not rechecking his work seemed to be his main sources of errors. We will continue working on this. The student did surprisingly well in person on the ch. test he did poorest on in class. These were mostly based on finding the common denominator, which I guess he may have picked up after the test."
"This was our final algebra review before his exam. We finished up chapter 8 and chapter 9 review. He was still struggling with some of the more complex chapter 8 problems, though he recognizes that he can just use the quadratic equation most of the time. Chapter 9 he's pretty comfortable with, especially the word problems since he can follow pretty easy formulas."
"We reviewed percents and fractions. Our main focus was on solving word problems and using Algebra to solve them. I assigned more problems to practice so Meg can stay sharp."
