If you’re preparing for college and want the opportunity to move beyond introductory history courses during your freshman and sophomore years of college, the College Level Examination Program is one option to potentially earn college-level credit for introductory history courses.

There are several U.S. History courses that you can test out of with the College Level Examination Program (also known as CLEP) including History of the United States 1. This exam covers the information that would typically be taught in the first semester of a two-semester course on the history of the United States. The CLEP History of the United States 1 exam includes 120 multiple-choice questions. These questions cover a range of topics from the U.S. History between 1790 and 1887, emphasizing the English colonies. Students are expected to be able to identify and describe historical events, analyze and interpret historical situations, and compare and contrast historical events in order to be successful in this exam. If you pass the exam, you’ll likely be able to start your study of history in college with other courses.

There are many different tools to prepare for the CLEP History of the United States 1 exam, including a set of free flashcards online, just one option available from Varsity Tutors’ Learning Tools.
