Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, the student and I worked on her math packet. I showed her a few division tricks, and we were able to get through page 1 of her packet in about an hour. She understands fractions. We also worked on graphing coordinates and reflecting them over the x,y axis. She did fine with those problems. She seems like a smart girl. She is able understand and retain what I teach her."
"We focused on different ways of completing multiplication problems. We finished the student's homework (a worksheet on 6-1). We also worked on Unit 5. We completed a worksheet and problems he had answered incorrectly."
"The students are doing geometry now (area and circumference of circles). They are finding it very easy. I introduced the boys to a new challenge this week: the quadratic equation. They probably won't get to it in school for another year or two, but they are having such an easy time with the math they're currently doing. Student A struggled a bit more than Student B, but he found it helpful when I made the formula more visual (substituting shapes for the a, b, and c terms of the formula). While both students expressed frustration at the beginning of the session, they were catching on quickly by the end! I'm definitely going to keep them going with this formula next week, and then they should be pros."
"We spent some time reviewing the student's math homework. We covered identification of variables, construction of equations, and basic solving through long division and multiplication. The student was familiar with all of these concepts. We used the final twenty minutes to go over some language arts work. We mostly discussed the meanings of first, second, and third person narration, but also got into the more nuanced subjective, objective, and omniscient narration styles. It was a good session."
"The student and I worked on finding the volume and surface area of various shapes, and the key skill we covered was multiplying fractions. We reviewed how to order fractions from smallest to largest and worked on the violin pieces for his concert tonight."
"Today we reviewed for the pupil's test. We reviewed the surface area of prisms, volume, and angles. The angles included properties such as adjacent sides, complimentary angles, supplementary angles, and congruent angles of opposite angles of intersecting lines."
