Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I reviewed graphing sin and cos in preparation for his test this Friday. We specifically went over amplitude, vertical shifts, phase shifts, and period shifts. We developed a methodology, and he did quite well."
"The student wrote two practice business-style letters. He has improved tremendously in punctuation and general coherence. He still needs to work on semicolon usage and spelling. We did several sentence dictations to practice spelling and punctuation."
"The student and I worked more with fractions and finding common denominators. We also practiced solving word problems with the use of linear equations. The student and I reviewed the quadratic equation and then worked ahead. We focused on direct and inverse variation. The student was able to write equations for both as well as determine what kind of relationships the functions had by looking at the equations or the graph."
"Evaluated student's material retention of previously learned mathematics concepts by administering practice problems to student and assisting/directing the student to the correct answer. Caught student up to previous session's retention level, and will begin new material next week."
"The student and I prepared for her chemistry midterm last night by discussing phase changes and diagrams, boiling point, chemical bonding and intermolecular forces, and the definition of an electrolytic solution. The student seems to know this material well. We will meet twice next week prior to her midterm to go over reaction rate and kinetics and le Chatelier's principle."
"I met the student and introduced myself to her. Her mom and I outlined an overall plan for the tutoring sessions. I then assessed the student on different topics of math, and I gave her a lesson on math vocabulary. She did some practice problems on math vocab. I then assigned her homework - reading on how to use negative numbers, and some practice problems with negative numbers. It was a great first session!"
"Completed student's homework for the following day. We practiced addition skills 1-20 and discussed an English assignment. Worked a lot with money and counting coins. Played hangman with her spelling words for the week. "
"SAT Prep; student took vocab quiz; reviewed essay; discussed the Writing portion of the exam, focusing on pronoun case, idioms, comparisons and modifiers, and other parts of grammar; worked on sentence improvement questions and identifying sentence error questions; assigned homework for next session."
"The student explained her past preparation for the test, and we discussed how she would like to prepare for this upcoming test. She did a timed verbal section and we reviewed the answers after. We also worked through a math section together, without time."
"We did a little work on all three subjects. We reviewed the student's poetry writing assignment, reviewed his current organizational and scheduling plans, and focused 2/3 of the time to two separate French assignments."
"The student and I began the session by reading the first 2 chapters in The Magic Tree House (Vacation Under The Volcano). Next, we did a vocabulary review from those 2 chapters. We stopped and checked for understanding while reading. The student took a spelling test. He scored 13/16. We ended the session by doing a reading fluency activity. The student put a lot of focus on reading the clearing, he did an excellent job! His times were higher put his enunciation was much great."
"Reviewed and explained the physical aspects and properties of capacitors and inductors. Solved several homework problems involving capacitors, inductors and op-amps. Derived first order differential equation for a circuit (integral topology with an extra resistor in parallel with the capacitor) and solved the differential equation by finding the homogeneous solution and forced solution."
