Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"For the student's 4th lesson at the library, I initially reviewed the packet work she'd been given last week while she sorted through a stack of High Frequency words that will be used to facilitate her when it comes to reading early reader books next month. She did well in the packet work. It proved to be helpful in ironing out the difference between "el" with and without the accent as this is a common mistake and one that she's just learning, having only been assigned to memorize the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd person pronouns- plurals and singular, last week. With our continued review, we went over numbers 40-60 with a mini-assessment through identifying random numbers in chosen bingo cards. We expanded vocabulary by incorporating mathematical functions for +,-,x, etc., as these are necessary building blocks for the student's work field. She began to break the ice with co-workers by sharing her emerging grasp of Spanish fundamentals and was rewarded with their sincere amazement and enthusiasm for her efforts! In the library's atrium, we felt comfortable having the student say the #s 40-60 aloud, then reviewed 70-100 by 10s that she'd pre-studied. I feel confident of our achieving the April goal of number competency. We also reviewed vowel sounds thru "j." We proceeded to the book, reading the scene dialogo where the student applied her sounds and translation skills. I assigned pgs. 32 & 33 follow-up questions for homework. Next week we will set April goals and set May goals, which will include completion/mastery of Sonidos Iniciales, reading and translating 2-5 appropriate reading level Spanish books, and mastery of the remaining industry oil terms (total 67)."
"Today the student and I continued with chapter nine of his Spanish textbook. We reviewed new vocabulary and it's usage. We reviewed and discussed his answers to exercises. It was a great session!"
"We reviewed past vocabulary and discussed reading comprehension questions from a novel she is reading in class."
