Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This evening I met with the student from 6:308:00 pm. We reviewed again for her makeup Geometry test. I made up practice questions for the test and had her work them out. We worked on midpoints, perpendicular bisectors, angle bisectors, medians, altitudes, triangle inequalities, relationship between angle size and side of a triangle. I feel as though she has a better understanding of what theorems to apply to each problem. She should regularly review the theorems. We also went over her new chapter on properties of quadrilaterals. She confided that she has struggled with finding the slopes of the lines and how to graph the lines. So we practiced this for 10 minutes. I will prepare some materials for her on this topic for next week."
"The student and I met to help her study for her test tomorrow over Chapter 5 (medians, altitudes, circumcenter, finding lengths, triangle inequalities, etc.). She had a review packet for the test that she said would be pretty close to the test. I went over it to make sure the answers she had were correct and had her finish up anything left. Then we went over what she had previously done and I had her explain how she did it. We went over any discrepancies and I reviewed some of the problems that were more difficult again. We looked at another packet briefly and the book for clarification. She should do okay on this test, since a lot of the problems use algebra, which she has gotten pretty good at."
"We began to review for his final coming up next month. We started with the material from the beginning of the school year conditional statements, segment addition, and distance formula. I am going to work with him on material easiest to hardest for him so that the tougher material is fresh on his mind. We will work with equations of lines and angles and parallel lines next time."
"During the tutoring session he worked on his geometry homework covering proportions and solving for the variable. He understood how to do this material very well and we were able to work through and complete the assignment easily. He then began working on a worksheet that dealt with factoring and simplifying square roots. He also was able to do that assignment with ease and did not require any help with it."
"The student and I went over Chapter 3.1 of his text book and walked through different types of problems that involved similar sides of figures, dilating figures about a certain point, and similar angles in the case of two parallel lines and a transversal line."
"In this session, I went over the test the student took last week and discussed the questions that she had on the test. She asked for guidance on testtaking strategies, which I gave her. Then, I helped her with her homework on geometric equations of lines and slopes. For this part of the material, she was able to handle the algebra well."
"We reviewed for her test on congruent triangles. Her proofs have greatly improved, and she just needs to remember to mark the steps in which she states that sides and angles are congruent, and remember to note when a triangle is right before she uses the hypotenuseleg theorem."
"During the session with the student, we went over a test that she got back. The problems that we went over are: proofs, parts of a triangle, and using the quadratic formula. We went over the problems stepbystep to understand what was occurring and to understand her mind set. I have no concerns about this session. I believe she will do well on the next test."
"The student is starting to understand the different fundamental properties and theorems used in proofs. We then moved on and did more practice with angles: vertical, complementary, supplementary, angle bisectors, and perpendicular lines. He has an understanding of how angles can be related to one another. I left him some homework on angles and a few proofs to do. Next time we will take a deeper look at constructing proofs from beginning to end."
"Todays session with the student went really well. We started completing his homework.
He is doing much better on seeing how to solve problems.
No concerns at this time."

"We first worked ahead to begin studying a new chapter on indirect geometric proofs. We tried a few problems and the student showed good understanding of the concept very quickly. Later, I reviewed more direct proof problems and invented some lengths of sides of those figures requiring the creation of an algebraic expression, with a solution needing factoring, the quadratic formula, and the Pythagorean Theorem. He also performed well here. We also talked about the significance of some negative answers we formulated, and the use of a directional scheme, and watched how an answer changed as I took the opposite of each item in the expressions."
"This was a good session with the student, she seems really on top of the triangle congruency theorems and we worked on practicing her proofs with them."
