Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went over a major project the student had assigned today. She needed help with standard form, point-slope form, and slope-intercept form. She had a hard time converting from one form to another, but she's a pro at graphing the equations already."
"We reviewed materials for the student's upcoming exam. It covered lines, parabolas, and corresponding equations. We also covered other problems given in the review by the student's teacher. I think the student has a good grasp on the material and should do well on the test."
"We covered scientific notation, multiple choice question strategies, and inequalities during this session; all of which were related to problems in her test booklet. I wanted to make sure she understood these areas in order to answer different questions that could possibly be derived. We made a few more notecards. We agreed she'd finish the practice exam and continue with the second one of the book by Sunday."
"We worked on the algebra assessment exam. Some of the topics we covered were simple interest and compound interest, graphing inequalities, and combining like terms. We discussed interest and how the two interest differ. I explained the interest formula. The student has great ability to apply logic reasoning for solving problems through process of elimination."
"Today the student and I reviewed for her test on Tuesday. We went over parabolas, graphing them, setting up equations from word problems, the AM Method, FOIL, and factoring quadratic equations. She and I had a very productive session today. She was very confident using her mathematics skills, being able to answer question from start to finish without having to pause or ask me a question or ask what to do. This has been a very pleasant change and what I've noticed from her from in the past, and she is definitely making progress. I have also noticed that she responds very positively to positive reinforcement."
"Systems of equations, elimination and substitution. Focused on using the associated and distributive properties to simplify equations. The student continues to struggle with the basics however she is showing improvement and greater understanding. The goal is to complete this in 4 to 5 weeks before the finals. Extra practice for her was to continue her practicing of the same."
