Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Student 1 worked on an informational essay on newly discovered species. We discussed how best to do research for papers and talked about how to structure his paragraphs to be most coherent and effective - putting references to the topic in the topic sentences, how to rephrase and restate the topic in the concluding sentence, etc. Student 2 worked from the 4th grade language arts book. We finished up a section on pronouns and began working on verbs. She got the most out of writing her own sentences using these parts of speech, as they required her to think more in depth about what these parts of speech actually are. We finished the session off by working through a couple of her spelling unit assigned for this week."
"Last night the student and I worked on preparing for her test on the state. We also reread her reading assignment. I asked her detailed questions as we finished each page as well as the meaning of the highlighted words. I gave her a pre-test for spelling and gave her some hints for the words she missed."
"The student and I went over the chapter on "The Articles of Confederation" which she struggled to understand. she had to write about Shay's Rebellion and filled the "Cause and Effect" chart. I explained the chapter by reading and explaining it along the way. Eventually after completing the definition of the vocabulary words, she came around. For math, we covered the topic "Convert Metric Units" by finding each unknown number, completing problem solving & test practice. We read "Treasure from China" & used each spelling word to complete the selection; she wrote the spelling word for each clue and completed each sentence by writing the spelling word that is an antonym of the underlined word."
"The student was excited to use the time-telling app again, so she was motivated to complete her other assignments quickly. We read a story and answered comprehension questions from her book. After the student did a second worksheet designed to work on reading text in sequence, we worked on telling time. She is making good progress on that."
"This afternoon, we spent most of the time reading. First, we finished Junie B Jones and the Sneaky Peeky Spying. Next, the student picked Snow White from her bookshelf. She still struggled when she encountered unfamiliar words, but with some help, she was able to read fluently."
"We did more reading comprehension questions and read a book. The student also worked on sounding out longer words in question responses."
