Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We spent most of the lesson reviewing the classes she missed, in addition to working on chapter 9, which is her latest chapter. She scored a 95 in her previous exam. Her exam tomorrow covers the 4 chapters we have already reviewed, plus chapter 9."
"The student and I touched on a variety of topics from the past units of her course. We briefly discussed LC circuits then spent the majority of the time on optics. We discussed red shift and blue shift, power, intensity, and the Poynting vector."
"We worked on a review packet for his unit exam and then reviewed an additional problem from yesterday's set. The unit covers E & M from Faraday's Law to AC circuits and transformers."
"I covered electromagnetism. This involved different equations, including: F = BiL, F = qvB, and VpIp = VsIs. He did not have many conceptual problems but he did have some trouble using his calculator to solve the problems. I showed him how to use the right hand rule and what I call the "Left hand rule." I also taught him a strategy to remember if x or o is into or out of the page. The win is that he was able to conceptually understand how to set up the problems and solve them. My concern is that some of the conceptual problems still may be tricky for him."
"The student had a test on Friday. We spent the session going through her PowerPoint, practice problems, and a practice review. There were not too many formulas in this section. On the practice test she was able to answer most of the questions. There were two troubling ones that I helped her with. She ended up doing well on the test."
"I helped the student work through several pages of short homework problems that covered several topics. We discussed the thin lens equation, compound lenses, geometry from both interference (single slit and double slit) experiments and diffraction gratings, and polarization physics, including Malus' Law. Many questions had small details that proved significant, and we got the student to be very detail-oriented by the end."
