Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This session I really pushed vocabulary for the geometry. It's been a little bit of a strange week with testing so things are moving a little slower. For this section we really went through the vocab so there will be no doubt about where the question is looking to go. We also did some problems and the student definitely knows what to do so I think he is in good shape here."
"Todays session with the student went well. We continued working on the basics of trig functions and completed a homework assignment for him. During this time I created a study sheet for him so that he would have pictures and all the equations for what he was working with. No new struggles at this time, the same old struggles of remembering things that he learned before. The student had a good attitude towards the material and did fairly well on the assignment. No new strategies at this time, the homework was very similar to what we worked on during Monday's session."
"We worked on the factoring worksheets that I had sent over the weekend. Although at first he had trouble with the material, he eventually improved and started doing real well on the harder problems as well. Hopefully, by next session, he will have mastered factoring."
"The student and I reviewed and previewed the material in his study guide packet. We went over midsegments of quadrilaterals and calculating angles of quadrilaterals. I recommended mass arithmetic problems to practice on, since at this point the majority of points he'll lose are from miscalculations. He also needs to improve his algebra foundations. We'll work on that in our next session."
"The student is always a pleasure to work with. She was a little confused on triangle similarity theorems, so we went over them in detail as she completed her study guide. By the end, she seemed very solid on the differences between AA, SAS, and SSS similarity properties. She easily calculated unknown sides and angle measures based on the similarity properties. She had the opportunity to practice setting up the word problems and accurately solved them too."
"Today, the student and I covered working with radicals in addition and subtraction while changing the radicals themselves. He was able to understand the concepts of changing the radicals and combining like terms. He learned different strategies to use when solving the problems. With the remaining time, we started working on practicing for the ACT. Most of what we focused on was working on word problems and working with basic concepts involved in mathematics as a review. He reported that this review was helpful to him and that he felt comfortable with the quiz for 7.4"
