Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I continued reviewing using the prep guide found online. We also reviewed probability theory using candy, and played an educational review game."
"The student and I started by reviewing rounding, multiplying negative and positive numbers, and review of powers. We then worked on adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions."
"We went over multiplication and long division again. Started the student doing factors and multiples. He needs help conceptualizing division."
"Again, the girls worked on their summer homework. We began with simplifying fractions with Student H. She did very well. We had to redo sections of the multiplying fractions because the girls did not know you have to convert mixed numbers into improper fractions. After they were taught this, both girls did well with the problems."
"In today's session we went over the homework I'd assigned from last time on factoring, least common multiple, and greatest common factor. Student F really seems to understand the concepts, but Student E is struggling when there are variables involved. We then did some work with square roots. Again Student F got what to do right away, but Student E needed some reminders and some help. Then we moved on to multiplying and dividing similar bases with exponents. Student E gladly took help when I offered. He seemed to have a bit of an epiphany at the end of the session. For our next session on Saturday I'm going to bring in some work on solving for variables."
"The student and I reviewed some homework problems on relationships within triangles and we also reviewed areas of different plane shapes. He did well on the simpler area problems, but had some difficulty with areas that gave radius as a dimension. I will give him more practice problems to improve his skills in this area."
