Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I met on Thursday at a coffee shop. I brought with me my Verb Tenses textbook which is a great resource for reviewing all Spanish grammar and has useful exercises for practicing writing. We started the session with a review of basic Spanish, such as present tense verb conjugation and irregular verbs spelling in the present tense, then we worked our way through the textbook into more difficult material. Once we encountered material the student seemed to struggle with, we worked on completing written exercises to test his accuracy. Also, as more practice, I asked him to identify a mistake in my writing or my speech as I gave him examples with very common errors. He seemed to benefit from this kind of practice because it reminded him of his early learning in Spanish. This practice also gave me an opportunity to see his strengths and weaknesses with material like the irregular verb forms. During this session, we reviewed progressives in writing and speaking, the past participle, and the preterite tense versus the imperfect tense in writing. Prior to this session, I made electronic notes for the student to use to help him organize the tenses. We closed the session by discussing specifically what he wants to focus on for our next session, which is the subjunctive tense. I ended our session with a video and lyrics to a Shakira song because so many of the tenses we went over are in that very catchy and popular song."
"We began to work on his level 3 workbook and the imperfect tense. The student will work more on formulating a sentence and conjugating when speaking."
"The student and I worked on reviewing for his vocabulary test. He did flashcards and then I called them out in Spanish and English."
