Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I worked on more practice exams. She was not able to finish the one that I was going to grade for her, however the questions that she did do on her own, she did very well on them. She is starting to get more of the multiple choice right and is showing signs of improvement from one practice test to the next. Overall she is doing very well with the practice tests. She knows what steps to take before arriving at an answer."
"During yesterday's session, we completed the multiple choice section of a past state assessment exam. This was our last session before the assessment on Friday. He understands the relationships used when dealing with circles and parallelograms, but he does still need to memorize them. He should also practice a bit with proofs. Otherwise, he seems to have a good handle on the material."
"Today we went over the material that is going to be on the student's next test tomorrow. He practiced crafting proofs with supporting postulates. He also created note cards for his postulates. One by one, we went over each practice problem that the teacher provided. He seemed quite prepared, and he was able to review all his concepts verbally before we finished."
"Today, we began chapter 4 congruent triangles with the idea of finishing half of the chapter. The student picked up on all concepts very quickly so we were able to accomplish much more than expected. He did an extraordinary job with writing congruent triangle proofs. He did not struggle at all today."
"We started to cover some fundamental ideas in geometry. These ideas include point, line, plane, and set postulates. We started lines, line segments, and a few other geometry ideas. The student did the previous assignment and this helped us do quite a bit during the session. I again had him outline definitions for the next three sections for our next meeting."
"In today's session, we split our time between geometry and ACT science. We began by going through section 3.7's concepts, vocabulary, theorems, proofs, and examples. We then went back and reviewed the topics covered in the previous sections in chapter 3. We then worked through some problems on the chapter test. Afterwards, the student took a practice ACT science exam. In the next session, we will go over it. The student should finish the homework for Monday, so that we can get into chapters 4 and 5 next week."
"The student did so well on his placement exam, he completely skipped algebra, and was placed directly into geometry. We have started preparing him for geometry class by starting with the very basics of geometry."
"We spent the session, learning basic geometry vocabulary and notation. Specific concepts we covered included lines, planes, triangle, quadrilaterals, and circles. Only the very fundamental concepts were covered, and I plan on going into further detail as lessons progress. The student seems very bright."
"The student and I had our first session today. We focused primarily on topics included in quadrilaterals, especially trapezoids. We also reviewed and discussed properties of parallel lines. We will meet again tomorrow and hopefully get to focus more on proof."
"Today we covered several chapters. We started with Foundations of Geometry and moved into Using Formulas in Geometry. The student is to go over Using Deductive Reasoning to Make Conjectures and has a worksheet on Biconditional Statements and Definitions."
"The student had done a good job on most of the Geometry homework, but wanted more help on the stats work. We reviewed his geometry work, spent some more time on trig functions, then moved on to stats. He is now much better equipped to complete the problem set this week, and has new geometry homework."
"Today was my first session with the student and it went well. We worked on the beginning of her assignment book for next year. I didn't see any scores or grades. She did really well and didn't seem to have trouble with anything that we did. I left her with problems to do from the book, and I will be sending her some things to memorize."
