Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Sometimes we use his textbook for tutoring purposes. However this session I brought some materials that I have used in the past to great success. It is a Chinese word search that is both fun and educational. The student's Chinese is getting better and better."
"We reviewed for the student's upcoming mock assessment test- including vocabulary, grammar structure. She showed great improvement, and was able to retain a lot of vocabulary while exhibiting a greater level of reading comprehension."
"Today we have finished the topic of directions. This is our last session and since I will no longer be able to tutor the student after this session, we went through almost every topic related to directions. I also introduced four directions on a map, and combined all the vocabularies to give and ask directions. She did a very good job. This is actually the first time that I introduced so many new words in one session and she picked up almost all of them at once. We practiced a lot in the rest of the session so that she could both understand me in Mandarin and give directions by herself in Mandarin."
"I helped the student out with her lesson 4 homework. We answered the questions according to the text and did some translation."
"First session: I went through the books this student used in his school in Singapore and I brought some books. We had different conversations. I had a main idea of what level he is at and his vocabulary level. We decide to use his books and I will supplement with my books/flashcards in the future as materials for conversations. We practiced vocabulary involving colors, numbers, animals, foods etc."
"Today we began with understanding the pronunciation of Chinese tones as the building block of learning new vocabulary. We also discussed practicalities of traveling in China. We learned how to ask for the restroom, how to understand directions, and how to introduce yourself. We will continue to build upon these phrases to work into actual real life scenarios as we progress."
