Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Prior to the session, the student provided several sample pages from the placement tests he hopes to pass this coming summer. He also has a workbook that covers most algebra II and pre-calculus material. After discussing his goals and plans, we began work on the workbook. We worked on binomial expansion for most of our session. By the end of the session, he was able to use FOIL methods to expand polynomials, as well as work with a variety of expressions similar to polynomials."
"The student and I reviewed all operations for fractions, mixed numbers, and decimals, and I taught her the beginnings of algebraic substitution."
"Review of last Wednesday concepts: Inequalities Solving simultaneous equations Manipulating variables Functions Parent graphs Domain and range Word problem breakdowns Identifying parts of a formula for understanding"
"We covered radius, circumference, and diameter of a circle as it relates to Pi. We also calculated perimeter and area of different 2 dimensional shapes, including triangle, square, and pentagon. We learned the association of the area of congruent equilateral triangles as it relates to the shape the circle lies within."
"We covered simplifying exponents and solved two linear equations. The student had trouble with adding, subtracting, dividing, and multiplying the exponent. His attitude was great, he applied himself well. He will continue to work the homework problems to improve his understanding of the subject matter."
"The session covered factoring and finding prime factors of a number. We did several practice examples using factor trees. We also started working through a standardized 6th grade math test to evaluate how well the students understand concepts that could be presented. The test identified some challenging areas of such as working with decimals and converting between fractions and decimals. We will cover these concepts in upcoming sessions."
