Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I went over his chapter review makeup problems. This chapter went over similarity, golden ratio, angles of elevation and depression, ratios and proportions, etc. I urged him to continue showing his work while completing the math problems."
"In today's session with the student, we reviewed Chapter 10, a chapter concerning circles that he has been doing very well with. He has a test coming up tomorrow on subjects like arc lengths, the formulas for circles, and the Power Theorems. He did not struggle with any particular concept but rather has been doing very well in this chapter. He is very optimistic about the test tomorrow, and as long as he stays focused, I expect him to do very well. He has done extremely well on his previous Chapter 10 quizzes, and he should do very well on this test as well. For extra practice, I told him to practice more with using the Power Theorems, since that was the topic he had the most issues with. Overall, I have no concerns from this session, and I am looking forward to seeing how he does on this exam."
"We went over a review for her test on Thursday on chapter eight. We reviewed the properties of trapezoids, rectangles, squares, rhombi, and parallelograms. We did homework from a new chapter going over the properties of circles and chords."
"We reviewed chapter 1 problems, practiced logic questions in chapter 2 and conditional/ converse/ inverse/ contrapositive statements. He liked the pattern recognition/ problem solving type problems in the first section of chapter 2. I told him to work on the homeworks a little bit each day rather than all at once. I assigned him two homeworks to have done before next session. I graded his previous test review and the ones he missed were part of the topics he had covered before I had come in the picture. I will be preparing him new material revolving around those missed problems. The ease with which he is learning new material is excellent, we just have to make sure he keeps up with writing out all of his work and not missing problems on minor mistakes."
"We reviewed slope, parallel lines, and perpendicular lines. I gave them some equations of lines to graph. Student M did great, Student I had a little more trouble. We've touched on absolute value in previous sessions, so today I introduced solving and graphing absolute value inequalities. This is a difficult concept, and the boys had some trouble with it, but that is expected at first. The key to mastering any of these concepts is practice, and that is what we have been doing. I would recommend that the boys continue to practice these concepts in order to stay on top of them. I would recommend that they use a particular website - it is a great resource for practice (of any academic subject) and contains all the concepts that we have gone over thus far."
"Today we worked on a few sections of geometry that are on the student's Algebra 2 review. I showed her some tricks for similar triangles and also introduced 30-60-90 and 45-45-90 triangles to her. We changed the schedule of assignments for her to complete so that she would be finishing earlier than anticipated. The rest of the packet is Algebra so I'm guessing that she'll have no problems with it."
