Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
The student and I worked on a review sheet covering roots and rationalization. He understood the material well. He was not completely confident at the beginning, but after going through the problems, he was comfortably confident. We finished the worksheet and still had a half hour, so we did most of a math practice from a PSAT book I brought.
We went over basic geometry. I reviewed basic area and perimeter of squares and rectangles. I then introduced how to calculate the area of triangles (both right and scalene). We then went over calculating the area of circles. We ended the session applying the concepts to graphs, which included plotting points and counting distance on a coordinate grid.
The student worked through her lab and homework packet and we talked about some critical thinking problems. We also talked through her notes to make sure she understood them. Finally, we began preparing for her midterm coming up this week. We'll meet earlier in the week to make sure she's prepared for it.
The student and I got through most of her essay, leaving a portion of the conclusion paragraph and the cycles paragraph. She started slowly, but really got the hang of what was expected to her and did well.
In French, we discussed current events in the student's life and an article from the newspaper. He really enjoyed the extra practice, and it was encouraging to see his fluency improve as he used his own word bank to express himself.
The student worked on homework covering parametric equations, converting from rectangular to parametric form and vice versa, and graphs of parametric equations: graphs of lemniscate, graphs of limacons, and graphs of rose curves. She also worked on problems involving the trigonometric form of a complex number, and finding the nth roots of a complex number.
