Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student started today by completing a math homework worksheet on finding the volume of a prism. We then worked on a reading guide for a novel she is reading in Language Arts. We studied a study guide for her music class on different types of instruments. She ended the session by retaking a test on the computer for her English class. She needed to make corrections from the first test."
"The student and I had a productive session going over her statement of purpose. She is making great progress. We dove deeply into the "Why this college?" portion of the essay, and I helped her collect her thoughts and figure out exactly what she was trying to say."
"We had a great session tonight. I'm very impressed with how the student did. His reading impressed me again as well. He is getting smoother and more confident with his reading, getting tripped up with fewer and fewer words that are not actually difficult or counterintuitive. He still shows plenty of enthusiasm for reading and learning, which is so important."
"After checking and reviewing last week's homework, I had the student work on an ELA essay question. We planned out the essay together then I had him write it on his own. His writing has shown improvement but he still needs to work on spelling and sentence structure. He also worked on comprehension questions that he had as a homework assignment for ELA class."
"The student and I spent our first session today talking about her goals for tutoring. She's currently working on a great sci-fi novel with lots of good action, exciting protagonists, and important, relevant conflicts, and she wants help figuring out how to move forward and connect all her storylines. I spent a lot of time asking her questions about the novel and what she has planned for it, and she and her parents are going to send me scanned pages of what she has written so far. Next week, I'll have more focused questions and activities (developing her setting and characters, generating new scenes, etc.) for her based on those pages. It was a pleasure working with her today! I'm looking forward to seeing more of her work."
"Student A and I worked on her packet for My Daniel. I proofread the work she had already done and helped her fill in the missing pieces. We worked on two new pages together. Student B and I played sight words and sentence formation games. We worked on a St. Patrick's Day story that he is writing."
