Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Went over homework, which was graphing lines based on slope-intercept form. Then did a test review, which covered classifying triangles based on angles and sides, using algebra and properties of triangles to determine angles, and interior and exterior angles of polygons."
"The student and I went over her Chapter 6 Test and discussed why she missed the problems that she did. Then we talked about all the types of problems she was unsure of or having trouble with, and we did many different practice problems. She seems to understand the concepts easily but has small issues solving the problems without making any minor errors. I am excited at the progress she is already making!"
"The student and I did our normal routine of just working through the practice tests past number 3. He does very well on every section and his timing seems great as well as we normally get through a whole practice test in one session except for the passages which he does for homework. He has a busy couple of weeks coming up with SAT subject tests and 3 AP tests so we may be going a little slower in sessions soon."
"Today the student and I worked on literature and history. In his literature class, they just began reading a new play and are a little ways into Act I. We reviewed what they had read, and worked on the study questions his teacher had provided. He thinks that they will continue to read through the play in class and he will answer the study questions as they go along. In history, they are studying the 1890s. The student had a review sheet that he went over. We went over his sheet, and it seems as though he has a strong grasp of the definition of the words. We worked a little more on his comprehension on how some of the terms tie together."
"Continued to review math. Tried to insure that concepts and strategies are applied correctly and consistency. The student is showing a clever attempt at using strategies and just needs reinforcement for when each strategy applies. Review is the key for keeping track of all the information."
"The student and I worked through the review packet for his final exam. Topics covered all previous units. After finishing the packet, we worked more problems focusing on areas that needed extra attention such as sequences/series, finding zeros/asymptotes/domain/range of functions, and plotting functions with holes and asymptotes."
"The student had completed only the reading and English sections of the homework test; he did not have time for science and math. He did quite well on the English. We discussed how to bubble larger sections, rather than individual questions, to improve accuracy. The student had asked for a trigonometry review, so we worked through some of that tonight. We completed part of a math section together, and I tried to help the student find some shortcuts so that he will have time to answer more questions in this section."
"The student and I worked through more of her language learning course. She has moved on to a new unit so there are quite a few new vocabulary words. She is picking up the new material quickly, though."
"The student is still struggling with time in all areas, but we are starting to see improvement. Her reading score is looking good. Math is a concern, and will be one of our focal points. I assigned math of test 1 as homework, in addition to 2 hours of reading, and English test five."
"Today the student and I reviewed a assessment. The student and I discussed every problem, correct and incorrect. We then went on to cover the day's material: inverse relations."
"In today's session we completed chapters 3 and 4 of the exercise physiology text review. I outlined both chapters and reviewed them with the student. In addition to our outline review we completed a review of the topical review sheet given to her by her teacher. She completed hers on her own. No major concerns this session."
"We worked on a review study guide for an upcoming exam, and reviewed methods of solving quadratic equations. I left him with a practice set covering those concepts."
