Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student practiced her vocabulary and creating sentences. She also practiced writing characters as assigned in her homework."
"Today was my first session with the student, and I started off by teaching him the four tones and also how to pronounce the basic vowel sounds, progressing into full words/phrases. We used a Chinese pinyin textbook, which I have left with him. I pronounced each letter first and then had him practice on his own. We were able to make it through Chapter 8 of the book. For the last 30 minutes of the session, we worked out of the conversational textbook that I have given to him to keep for himself. Chapter 1 was centered on learning how to greet someone with "good morning", and we read through the entire chapter by the end of the session. He is extremely quick at learning each concept and is able to retain information covered across the chapters. Accurate pronunciation of the four tones as well as the alternate "u" sound are the most difficult concepts for him right now, but I will continue working with him on that over the course of our sessions. I have left him both textbooks so he can look back over the concepts that we covered today."
"Student 1: We went back and reviewed person pronouns like I, you, he, she, it, my, your(s), his/hers/its, and basic actions "walk, sleep, eat, fly, sit..." and ask and answer questions of color. Student 2 and 3: We first reviewed the most used quantifiers in Chinese by matching the characters to its pinyin to the objects that are used with. Then we learned the song "I am a small bird" and to sing the chorus of it. Finally, since they brought up about being interested in learning Halloween related terms, we started going over some common objects related to Halloween."
