Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered distributive property, ratios, rates, and long division. The student needed help with understanding how to determine rates and ratios. As he understood it better, he liked it more. We talked about test-taking strategies, such as rewriting the terms of word problems."
"During this session, I helped the student review for the ACT. We specifically went over the math section in a prep book he had. He attempted a page at a time and then I checked each page. He was getting some problems wrong because he was not reading each problem carefully. I gave him tips to help him read more carefully and remember how to do each problem."
"We worked more on lines and systems of equations. The student seems to understand the material. My suggestion was to write down, in a separate place, a set of steps to solve problems like these and apply the steps every time instead of thinking of what to do anew every time we do a problem."
"Today we worked on integrating functions using partial fractions. We went through the problems, making sure to cover most cases that the student would see. She has formulas and methods to solve the problems. We went through different ways to solve the problems so that she would be more likely to remember one. She really seemed to understand the concept after we were done with the session! I look forward to seeing her again next Monday!"
"The student and I covered finding least common denominators (LCDs) of rational expressions, and adding and subtracting rational expressions requiring LCDs."
"We went over how to use the gradient vector to find the equation of tangent planes to a surface. The student needed help with how to use the definition of the directional derivative to calculate values. She is extremely comfortable with algebra and that is definitely working to her advantage. Overall, this was a good session, and by the end I felt that she had her questions answered and had a better grasp on the material at hand."
