"I prepared the student for her quiz on exponents, simplifying exponential expressions, and multiplying and dividing exponential expressions. She has mastered this subject and I expect her to do very well on Tuesday. She should quickly review her worksheets on Monday evening to refresh her memory prior to the quiz."
"Today, we worked on making corrections on the quiz from last week, and then we worked on the graphs of sine and cosine functions by finding the parameters - amplitude, period, phase shift, and vertical shift. Then, we worked on writing the trigonometric function when the graph is given."
"Today the student got ahead in his class by working on two sample t-tests to find the difference between two population means. We first talked about the conceptual purpose of the test, and then we went through running the test, including the F-test pretest to determine whether to pool variance. Finally we talked about pooled variance and the purpose of pooling. I also suggested he use the test questions to practice forming hypotheses, as this is still tricky. We will continue to work on it as well."
"The student completed homework due on Monday. The homework was over a lesson he missed, so we had plenty to do. This lesson involved functions that consisted of different equations depending on which range of x values were considered. The piecewise system had to be taken one part at a time. He was given graphs, word problems, and equations, and had to produce a drawn graph or answer given that. He did a good job on it and figured it out fairly quickly. He also said that he made a high B on his last test, which was a significant improvement, so things are going pretty well for him."
"We reviewed logarithmic and exponential properties (including simplifying using these properties), and we worked on finding derivatives of logarithmic functions, including using the chain rule, product rule, and quotient rule. We also talked about finding the equation of tangent lines at a given point or, more simply, finding the slope of the tangent line at a given point. The student needed help with logarithmic properties, a topic covered in precalculus. She scored above average on her latest quiz."
"In my session with the student today, we discussed practice problems in his online homework. We mainly discussed fractions, simplification, and least common denominator."
