Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We started with a outdoor activity today reviewing the just learned topic shopping. It was the student's idea actually which I think pretty great. She created a hopscotch filling the vocabularies we learned. And I set a rule of playing the game with "bonus". We both enjoyed it very much while I can have her practicing the words. After that, we started our new topic of transportation. I introduced the most commonly used transportation, public and private. The student read each one of them by herself. I corrected her when needed. I also included games for her to practice shopping. She watched the video of shopping and how to buy clothes in a mall. The student is now familiar with the expression of money, size, negotiating prices, and so forth. She can also recognize most prices with different digits of numbers, colors, other description of clothing. To sum up, we did the shopping topic extension, and introduced new topic of transportation (vocabularies and phrases) ."
"I helped the student with some exercise questions in her text book. We learned to use the given expressions to make sentences, translate sentences, and answer true or false questions. She did a great job today."
"Today we did a quick review of greetings and we moved on to "How are you"? Both students are getting better with their tones and pronunciation. We also learned some pronouns and adverbs today. We practiced some translation in class for the new words we learned today."
"We reviewed a lesson that the student's teacher assigned. We did 3 homework assignments together. He did very well on his own, with a little assistance. He will continue on his homework assignments, and we will go over them when I come next time."
"After spring break, we reviewed all numbers from 1 to 15, all color words, all animal words, all food words we have learned including fruit words. We did a pretend birthday party while trying to practice all these words. We practiced adjectives with opposite meanings like big/small, fast/slow, hot/cold etc. We practiced basic greetings and courtesy words like how are you, I'm fine, thank you, you are welcome, long time no see, etc. It was a good session."
"We first warmed up with "five chess." They are getting better and better at it, and are also using and understanding instruction more and more. We talked almost straight through all using Chinese. Then we hit the number and concentration game. Today's record was 79. They are also more fluent at numbers as well. We then reviewed writing of characters. They made few mistakes, and improved a lot compared to last week. Pinyin also has improved. Today's new lesson focused on how to say and identify the words man, woman, boy, girl, I am, you are, he/she is, etc. We did some exercises and I gave them a Q&A afterwards. The homework is to rewrite all the mistakes they made 10 times."
