Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"In today's lesson, we first went through the second half of the questions that we started on yesterday, going question by question, with me explaining context and the answer when necessary. Then we did American history questions (from the colonial period and the American Revolution) and then we reviewed civics terms using the flashcards the student provided. We are planning on having four lessons this next week."
"We began by finishing up the student's practice homework for this week. He has his first test next week so we spent the rest of the time reviewing each chapter. There are 5 chapters in total for the test, so I told him to study one each night. I suggested that he review by saying the answers out loud, which seems to help him remember. I also told him to figure out the format of the test so that next week we could review for the second half of the test. I told him to get a folder for his homework papers so that they can all be in one location to help with review."
"The first student and I did homework focused on the age of exploration and the Colombian trade. I had a half hour with the second student during which I discussed the general concepts of essay writing, beginning and ending and planning your writing."
"He received a study guide from his World History teacher for an upcoming test. The study guide consisted of 25 problems. We worked through 20 of the 25 and I left him with instructions on how to complete the last 5. The study guide covered the Tang and Song Chinese dynasties, the Byzantine Empire, Vladimir the Great, and the Mongols. I also a left him with a study method for after he completed the study guide. I am still learning his learning style but I believe he is an interactive learner. The next time I see him I will create a game for us to play."
"We reviewed some history vocabulary for his quiz and looked at a quiz he had not done well on. We found why he had missed some of the answers. We also completed his math assignment."
"The student completed extremely detailed outlines for both of the his essays, which are due tomorrow. His skills of observation and analysis are improving with each session. His memorization is generally good, and I'm hoping that he will continue to retain as much as possible moving forward."
