Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This session we reviewed the pluperfect and future perfect verb tenses, worked on translation using some sample sentences, and reviewed conditional clauses. The student was struggling to grasp the relative time of the two tenses, but eventually understood! Since we were translating, we continued to discuss and practice translation strategies (e.g., working backwards from the main verb; noting words that introduce subordinate clauses)."
"This was a good session. We explored all six verb tenses: present, perfect, future, future perfect, pluperfect, imperfect. We conjugated first through fourth conjugation regular and deponent verbs. We not only worked with the forms but translated them accordingly. After finishing the verb packet we explored dates. In Latin only three days of a month are defined. Kalendis:first, Nonnes:5th, Idus:13th; except for July, March, May, and October. All in between days are counted backwards using ante died or a.d. (Roman numeral) then either kal., non, or Idus. We count backwards counting the initial day so that a.d. iv Idus Aug. is the 13th of March count back 4: 13, 12, 11, 10! The 10th of August. We completed a Latin to English and an English to Latin dates assignment. I wish him the best on his upcoming exam."
"In today's session, the student and I went over material to prep for his Latin test. He had a good attitude this week and he's showing signs of constant improvement. We went over various test studying strategies."
