Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student has a quiz coming up next week so we went through a practice quiz and the three formulas he needed to have memorized for the quiz - segmented interested, continuously compounded interest & half life. I also taught him an easy way to check his answers found graphically and he felt very confident about taking the upcoming quiz."
"Today, I covered percentages, sequence/pattern, distance, slope and equations. At the end of the session, he mastered these topics. His attitude was positive and willing to learn the material."
"The student and I went over the discriminant, quadratic formula, parabolas, roots, characteristics of the routes, completing the square, vertex form, standard form, axis of symmetry, and where parabolas increase or decrease. After we went over her notes and a few examples she got much more confident."
"Student A has a geometry final on Friday. I spent about 50 minutes with her working through some proofs that were not in the textbook and reviewing some other concepts she was a little unsure about, such as finding the orthocenter of a triangle. Overall, I think she has a really good grasp of the concepts and I think she should do well on the exam. I spent about 25-30 mins with Student B as he was working through his algebra homework, which was two questions about forming linear equations when given two points. We did some extra word problems for practice. He said he didn't have any tests or quizzes coming up and that he didn't have any questions on previous sections. He does seem to be able to handle the homework assignments fairly well."
"After going over the practice problems I assigned last week, we covered how to find the vertex, zeroes, and y-intercept of a parabola as well as average rate of change. The student seems to have a good grasp of how to find the key features of a parabola, but had trouble with finding the average rate of change. We'll work on that in our next session."
"Today we met due to the student having some difficult with some homework problems. We reviewed her old homework and she has a good grasp on that material. We went over factoring trinomials. She was able to understand how to factor these problems after I explained the necessary steps used to solve each."
